About
My name is Carter Call.
I am age years old.
I grew up in Utah and recently moved to Georgia.
I have a BS in Computer Science cum laude from the University of Utah. I got a full-ride, 4 year scholarship along with a housing stipend.
I am the oldest of 5 children. I have 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Software Development
I work in software development. I've been coding for over 15 years, with 3 years full-time as an employee, 4 years as a student and several years before that being self taught.
My beliefs on software development often change as I learn more about the intricacies of managing projects of different sizes.
Some short statements of my beliefs of software development.
- Simple is better than complex.
- Use things that have stood the test of time unless you have a really good reason.
- Don't reinvent the wheel (unless to learn).
Tech
Linux
I recently downloaded Arch Linux on my laptop to test it out. This was my first Linux installation, and doing Arch Linux was really diving into the deep end for it. The Arch Linux wiki is amazing though, they have information on almost anything you would need to do the installation from start to end. There were a few things that gave me a few hiccups, like choosing the DSP (I chose Wayland) and knowing what the heck a Compositor was.
I am now a Linux Andy. I want to get it on my main PC eventually, but I'd like to iron out any problems with my config files on my laptop first, and then download Arch onto my laptop.
